Carlisle couple Richard and Sarah Miller have launched a new business in Wigton.

Richard is a partner with Burnetts Solicitors in Carlisle and Sarah runs her own events company from their home in Burgh by Sands.

Their new venture together is nothing to do with either of their day jobs; it’s Cumbria Storage Solutions, boasting 33 self-storage units, with 24 hour access, in a secure building at Station Yard.

“The unit became available and Richard said why don’t we do something with it,” says Sarah, who grew up in Wetheral before moving to Wigton aged 10.

She set up Sarah Miller Events & Experiences Planner in February. Previously, she worked as a team-manager for Barnardo’s in Allerdale.

Richard also grew up in Wigton – he was the year above Sarah at Nelson Thomlinson School, although they only became a couple five years ago and were married in 2017.

His parents Michael and Julie Miller own the commercial estate Miller Park and Station Yard, where Cumbria Storage Solutions is based. The business launched in July with a website and Facebook page.

“The feedback we got was that people wanted 24-hour access – not to have to get in touch first – so we have responded to need and put that system in place,” Sarah said.

The units are in a red brick building with a refurbished interior. The site is close to Wigton bypass and within walking distance of the town and railway station.

“There’s a lot of small traders there who need storage and new-build houses don’t necessarily allow for a great deal of storage. Those were the key drivers,” Richard added.
