ROLL up, roll up...the Lake District is getting its own version of Monopoly.

The iconic board game is being given a fresh twist which will see around 30 iconic Lakeland landmarks replace the famous London spaces and streets.

And the creators want the public to put forward their nominations.

“We expect to be wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this game together,” said George Shrimpton, who works at Monopoly,

“The public is being invited to vote for their Lake District favourites to feature in the game. Some landmarks look like absolute shoo-ins. We welcome and invite all suggestions.”

The Lake District saw off stiff opposition from across the UK including the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Highlands to be chosen as the destination.

Mr. Monopoly broke the news with a gigantic Monopoly set on the shores of Windermere.

Mr Shrimpton, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK - who are producing the board under official licence from Monopoly owners Hasbro said: “The game will feature the great and the good of the Lakes.

“We are extremely excited to be producing it.

“We looked at very many national parks across the UK and The Lakes was the clear winner.

“We wanted to select a game that celebrates the very best of Britain. More than twelve million people visit the Lakes every year so we expect the game to be a world seller.”

For a month only the public is also invited to suggest landmark names.

They can do so by emailing thelakes@winningmoves.co.uk or via the official facebook page: The Lakes Monopoly Edition.

The new game will be available from next spring at all major retailers across the county and online.
