A STAND-UP comic who is supporting TV star Jack Whitehall on a UK arena tour is to headline the 2019 Taste Cumbria Comedy Night in Cockermouth.

Tom Lucy has performed all over the world and comes to Cumbria on Friday, September 27, fresh from his sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Earlier this year he staged his own UK tour which included a sold out gig at London’s Leicester Square Theatre. He’s one of the youngest comics on the professional circuit yet has still supported the likes of Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Harry Hill and Shappi Khorsandi.

Tom will be joined on stage by Dave Williams, who will be Taste Cumbria’s MC for the evening. He’s famed for his crisp one liners and surreal nonsense and has headlined at some of the world’s best comedy clubs.

The night’s third great name is Phil Chapman whose talents aren’t confined to the comedy circuit. He’s also a radio presenter and writes for the likes of BBC Radio 4 and even fronts a series of videos for the Racing Post.

The Taste Cumbria Comedy Night is just part of the festival’s line-up of entertainment for its 10th anniversary.

Thanks to a merger with the Northbound festival this year there will be live music and a beer tent with Workington’s Tractor Shed Brewing on Memorial Gardens from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, September 27, then from 10am to 9pm on the Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on the Sunday.

There will be bands in the town’s pubs on the Saturday night to make sure every venue plays a part in the festival too.

A host of local bands are signed up to play on the Northbound stage, including an opening set from Crow Dog, as well as Mojo Rising, Appy Mundays, Goosey Tyson and Skafell. The full line-up will be announced soon.

There’s plenty of family fun planned too with a street party on Market Place on the Saturday evening and fairground rides on Memorial Gardens throughout the weekend. The main festival includes a big producers’ market on Main Street, artisan businesses on Market Place, and food and drink demonstrations from some great chefs too.

The Taste Cumbria food festivals are now organised by Allerdale Borough Council in association with Taste Cumbria magazine and Cumbria Life and their publisher Newsquest.
