JESS Glynne and John Newman led a party in the park in front of thousands of Cumbrian fans.

The music superstars had the crowds captivated with hit after hit.

Saturday night’s concert was eagerly anticipated after the original show was postponed.

And they did not disappoint as both blasted out their chart-topping hits.

Some - including a group of friends from Penrith - danced along while wearing their own homemade t-shirts especially to support Jess.

After the first date was postponed fans were able to swap their single tickets for two. Claire Martin, 34, from Penrith said this was perfect: “We got our tickets for the first date and it should have just been work colleagues but when we were able to get the free one, we all brought a friend. It’s an amazing atmosphere in the park and we’re just looking forward to her (Jess Glynne) coming on stage.”

Also, part of the group, Emma Felton, 34, she said: “It’s brilliant to be here, we’re having a really good time we all have matching tops on just to show our support and so we can find each other.”

It wasn’t just the headliner who the fans had come to see, John Newman had his own following,

Tracey Nimmo, from Sandsfield Park, said: “It’s good it is a really good atmosphere, It is the first time we have been to a concert as a family and it is my daughter’s first concerts.

“It’s very exciting, we have seen Jess before at V-Festival but that was a long time ago, we’re really looking forward to seeing John Newman.”

Her partner Dave Crossley added: “It’s great to be here with the kids and I’m looking forward to seeing John Newman the most.”

Waiting to see her first show was, daughter, Amelie, 5, who said: “I’m really excited to see Jess Glynne.”

The family-feel helped everyone relax and Emily Irving, 34 from Wigton said: “It’s really exciting, It is great for Carlisle to have such big names, I have my daughters, niece and god-daughter with me. We have really been looking forward to seeing her.”

As the show started, the fireworks exploded and the fans screamed in delight, before continuing to sing along and dance to music.

At he first interlude Jess Glynne said to her fans: “I’m feeling good tonight, It’s mad that this is the last gig in this chapter so it’s a celebration.”

Swaying with the music, she then belted out another hit keeping the fans happy.
