WHETHER it’s a mid-morning snack, or an early afternoon feast, here in Cumbria there are loads of places to go for a brunch.

This week we asked News & Star readers to share their recommendations on the best places to go in the north and west of Cumbria.

We had many comments on our Facebook page following our post earlier this week.

Here - in no particular order, are our readers’ choice.

1: KAT’S KITCHEN, KESWICK

The vegan and vegetarian restaurant, based on Main Street in Keswick, is open seven days a week.

It offers a range of homemade meals, including cakes, curries and soups.

It was recommended to us by Cherry Walsh.

She said: “ Kat’s Kitchen in Keswick. Great veggie and vegan options.

“Fried breakfasts, veggie BLTs etc.”

2: CAFE CENTRAL, CARLISLE

A firm favourite among many News & Star readers, the Harraby-based cafe has received lots of praise.

It is open to customers six days a week, and is closed on Sundays.

The eatery serves up a wide range of dishes - everything from traditional breakfast to pasta, cakes, burgers, chilli con carne,and pizza.

It was recommended to us by Thomina Khan Rujie and John Thompson.

3: HOUGHTON HALL GARDEN CENTRE, CARLISLE

The garden centre, located just off the A689 in Houghton, won praise from one of our readers.

On site is Cafe Eden, which is open throughout the week.

The coffee bar offers a wide selection of drinks, homebaking, sweet treats and snacks, for those who wish to sit in or take away.

Katherine Richardson said: “Houghton Hall Garden Centre do the best breakfast/brunch.”

4: PENNY BLUE, CARLISLE

The bar and restaurant, situated within a historic old post office building at The Halston in Carlisle also won praise from readers.

It is open to customers seven days a week.

The items on their brunch menu include: eggs benedict, along with a vegetarian option, smashed avocado, sweet potato with halloumi fries, plus Cumberland sausage and ham hock brioche roll.

Claire Hughes said: “Penny Blue at The Halston for veggie and vegan brunch options.”

5: LINGHOLM KITCHEN, KESWICK

The cafe, at Portinscale, Keswick, is open seven days a week between 9am and 5pm.

They serve up a range of traditional and healthy dishes.

The options include avocado toast, a bacon or sausage sandwich, eggs royale and smokey house beans.

Siân Howe recommended the cafe to us.

6: THE BRIDGE, KIRKBY THORE

The bistro, located in Kirkby Thore, east of Penrith, was recommended to us by Darren Phillip Todd.

Located just off the A66, it is open seven days a week.

It offers a mix of dishes, ranging from soups and curries to pasta.

Earlier this year it was visited by Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman.

The Greatest Showman star shocked diners and staff when he stopped off in the county in May.
