Twenty students from Cockermouth School have been awarded for their "absolute excellence".

The school formally recognises the outstanding achievements of its students by holding an annual Celebration of Achievement Evening.

This year’s event, at Hundith Hill, highlighted the amazing contributions the students make within the school and wider community.

A spokesman said: "Twenty students from throughout the whole school were individually chosen by members of staff for absolute excellence.

"The awards were kindly sponsored by local businesses, to whom we are exceptionally grateful, as without their contributions the event would not take place."

Invited guests included students and their families, staff, governors, local business sponsors, Cockermouth Mayor Julie Laidlow and her consort Desie Savage, members of Cockermouth Rotary Club, chair of Cockermouth Chamber of Trade and other members of the local community.

Peter McCall, Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner was guest speaker.

“It was a real treat to celebrate the success and hard work of some truly talented young people and a superb school and staff," he said.
