To mark the Tour of Britain coming through Kirkby Stephen and the Eden Valley next Tuesday, Kirkby Stephen Community Arts is presenting three days of free arts activities.

Spoke - A Celebration of Cycling features a short dance piece called Cheer!, created by Sian Williams from production company The Kosh.

Cheer! will be performed by James Aiden Kay and members of the community on Tuesday at 1pm in Kirkby Stephen’s Market Square, just before the Tour of Britain zooms through town.

Members of the public can get involved by joining a free workshop during a family day this Sunday at Kirkby Stephen Sports and Social Club. Sessions are at 10am-11am, 1pm-2pm and 2pm-3pm.

Other family day events take place on Church Green and in the Market Square from 10am to 4pm.

Activities include arts and crafts, poetry, cycling advice from Coast to Coast Cycles and a bike-powered smoothie maker.

Throughout the day visitors will able to make a smoothie or colour in a flag or a jersey that will be used to decorate the tour route.

The tour will pass through Kirkby Stephen between 1.30pm and 2pm on Tuesday. There will be no parking on the route and rolling road closures will be in place.
