An Egremont woman has been charged over an allegation that she conned her fiance and his pals out of more than £10,000 that was meant to pay for stag do abroad.

Rachel Doran, 31, has been charged with stealing £10,300 from 29-year-old Christopher Mahone and his friends.

She also faces a further charge of fraud.

Prosecutors say that she committed both offences between September 13, 2015 and September 17, 2017. A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Rachel Doran, of Lamb Lane, Egremont, is due to appear before Workington’s Magistrates Court on September 27, 2019."

No further details of the case have been released.

Earlier media reports suggested that Mr Mahone, a Sellafield worker, who at the time was living in Cleator Moor, had been due to fly to the Spanish resort of Ibiza with 29 friends, with each of them stumping up £450 for the four-day trip.

The trip, involving flights from Leeds Bradford Airport, never went ahead.

Court officials were unable to say which defence lawyer would be representing Miss Doran.

The magistrates' court hearing in Workington on September 27 will be the first time that the allegations have been put before the court.
