A MAN has admitted wounding his partner at an address in Penrith.

When he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday, James William O'Neil faced two charges.

O'Neil pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Terrie Heaton with intent to do her grievous bodily harm.

He also admitted the possession of a bladed article in a public place, Skiddaw View in Penrith, without lawful authority.

Both crimes were committed on August 3 this year.

This is said by the prosecution to be a case of domestic violence which resulted in Miss Heaton sustaining a serious lower leg wound which required stitches.

David Wales, defending, requested that a psychiatric report be prepared on O'Neil in view of incidents which had occurred during the past week.

Judge Nicholas Barker agreed, and also asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.

"That will consider the issue of dangerousness," Judge Barker said of the latter document.

He adjourned the case until October 28, when O'Neil, of Skiddaw View, Penrith, will appear at the crown court to be sentenced.

In the meantime O'Neil was remanded in custody by the judge.
