An historic pub overlooking Whitehaven harbour has been put on the market.

The three-storey Georgian building, home of the Waterfront pub, formerly known as the Royal Standard Hotel, is up for sale.

The venue has a long history of catering to drinkers and diners and used to hold a mariners’ licence to cater to sailors who arrived with the tide at all times of the day and night.

A number of tenants have occupied the building in recent years. As well as offering food and drink, the Waterfront has held live-music events.

There is no guide price for the premises – it is being marketed on an “offers invited” basis.

The premises offer well-furnished interiors – with a main bar area, snug, restaurant, commercial kitchen, and extensive private accommodation upstairs.

Matt Whiteley, associate director of the Leeds branch of James A Baker, which is marketing the property, said the property is in a great location and offers great scope for the right buyer.

“It is a well-furnished premises and benefits from fabulous, picturesque coastal views. There is real scope here for local or regional public house operators and restauranteurs to increase trade with outside dining potential.”

The property has potential for a range of uses subject to the granting of relevant permissions.
