FANS of the popular TV show Downton Abbey can attend a gala cinema evening - in aid of Carlisle Cathedral’s Fratry Project later this year.

The event will be held at Rheged, near Penrith, in October.

Guests will be able to step back to the art deco days of the 1930s and watch a screening of the brand new Downton Abbey film on the centre’s fantastic big screen.

Donations, from the evening, will go towards the final appeal for this historic transformation in the heart of the city.

Helen Campion, Rheged’s cinema manager shared her thoughts on the event. “We are delighted to be holding our first Gala Cinema evening at Rheged, in aid of Carlisle Cathedral’s Fratry project. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to experience an evening of glitz and glamour packaged with the much-loved Downton Abbey on our giant screen.”

Tickets are on sale now for this one-night-only gala on Sunday, October 13.

Guests will be welcomed with a red-carpet drinks reception and live jazz.

Craig Carruthers, the cathedral’s head of visitor services, said: “We’re thrilled to see the progress on the Fratry project on track, and visitors to the Cathedral this summer have been excited to see the transformation up close. As we launch our final fundraising appeal we’re excited to have support from our friends at Rheged – and to have the chance to enjoy a glamour-filled evening in the company of the Crawley family on the big screen at last.”

Tickets cost £25 which includes an optional £10 donation towards the Fratry Project Appeal.

They are available from Rheged.
