IT’S less than a fortnight until many children head back to school for the new term.

Across the county, the thoughts of parents will soon turn to school uniforms, and where the best places are to buy them.

This week, the News & Star has put that question to our readers, asking where they would recommend in north and west Cumbria.

Here - in no particular order - are our readers’ choice.

The shop, based on Nelson Street in Carlisle, was recommended by several readers.

The children’s clothing store is open six days a week, and is closed on Sundays.

It is also recommended by several schools in Carlisle and surrounding areas.

Julie Ridley-Shannan said: “The Uniform shop in Denton Holme, it’s a little more expensive than supermarkets but tons better quality and [the clothes] wash really well.”

The supermarket chain ranked highly among many of the News & Star

Lyn Barker said: “Asda; it’s well worth the price The only problem is it’s that popular, it sells out fast.”

Tracy Curwen said: “Asda; good quality and great value for money.”

Alison Kyffin, Holly Louise Herbert, Catherine Coleman and Sharon Geer also praised the supermarket’s offering for school clothes.

The clothing store is a firm favourite for many families across Cumbria.

Michelle Neaves said: “M&S every time, can’t beat them.”

Leona Borthwick added: “M&S all the way - although Next is good quality too.”

Caroline Edmondson told us: “Marks and Spencer; good quality that lasts.”

Laura Smiles said: “M&S Carlisle, great range, plenty of sizes and great wear - plus the staff were helpful and friendly.”

The supermarket chain, which has a number of stores across Cumbria, was praised by several people for their quality.

Lucy-Jo Eplett posted: “Sainsbury’s is amazing.

“My little girl’s was perfect from start to finish.

“Gave all her old stuff to someone else too.

“Best quality.”

Ivika Ogunsanya added: “Sainsbury’s, good quality and price.”

A new favourite in recent years, Aldi has established itself in the school clothing market, and quickly proved popular among many parents in Cumbria and across the country.

Lindsay Wheadon said: “Aldi are brilliant value for money for little ones.”

Sarah Jane Carini added: “I like Aldi uniforms.”

Another supermarket, which has several stores in Cumbria, was recommended by readers.

The chain offers a variety of uniforms for girls and boys with its Nutmeg clothing range.

Fellow reader Pauline Burke added: “Not forgetting Nutmeg, they wash really well.”
