SIXTY bags of rubbish were collected in just three hours by leading councillors and community members.
Allerdale council leader Marion Fitzgerald and executive member for housing Stephen Stoddart were in Moorclose last week carrying out the work in and around Newlands Gardens.
Joining them was councillor Linda Williams, residents, community payback scheme and staff from Castles & Coasts housing association.
Coun Stoddart, who represents the ward, said: "It was absolutely fantastic, I can't thank Marion enough for coming and being part of the team.
"I'm more and more impressed with the way the leader works, she's a fantastic leader and she's prepared to get her hands dirty."
The groups collected litter as well as weeds in the area.
A further litter pick is being planned in the area for next summer.
Coun Stoddart said: "I really hope more people join us and come out to give us a hand tidy up the area."
