NINETY women are looking to be serenaded, as a community choir looks to expand its playbook of songs.

Carlisle Community Choir is on the lookout for male voices to help them reach new tones and build on their current musical playlist.

The male and female voices in the choir are unbalanced - with 90 women and 20 men - and so it is pushing them to issue a plea for more bass and tenor voices.

Singers, both professional and amateur, are encouraged to apply.

Linda Howard, chairwoman of the choir, said: “No previous singing experience is necessary - even if you’ve just enjoyed singing to your music tracks in the car or sung in the shower, we would love to hear from you.

“We have more than 100 members in our choir and about 20 men.

“We would like to increase this so that we can expand our repertoire of songs.

“We don’t do auditions, so anyone can come and try us out. We also ensure that all our new choir members are supported, by providing a buddy to help them in the first few weeks so it isn’t at all daunting and we are very welcoming.”

Carlisle is treated to two performances each year from the choir, one in the summer and one at Christmas time.

As well as the bi-yearly performances and supporting local charities, the choir successfully takes part in competitions up and down the country such as the Manchester Amateur Choral Competition and the Carlisle and District Music Festival.

This year, for the first time, Carlisle Community Choir will be going on tour to Glasgow where it will perform at multiple venues.

The choir’s new season will kick-off on September 8 at its new location in the Chapel at Austin Friars School.
