A WIGTON woman has appeared in court accused of threatening to kill a social worker.
Michelle Stirling, 45, who lives at East End in the town, faced two allegations when she appeared at Carlisle’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The defendant allegedly made the threat to Linzi Bennett on March 5 this year as the social workers visited Stirling’s address in her professional capacity.
The charge says Stirling intended the victim to believe the threat would be carried out.
The defendant is also alleged to have assaulted by beating a man called Phillip Strike.
Prosecutors say that offence was committed on the same day.
Stirling - who was represented by defence lawyer Mike Woolaghan - denies both allegations. Magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing on September 20, and granted the defendant bail until that day.
