THERE are lots of great restaurants and takeaways across Cumbria to get a range of dishes from around the world.

This week, we asked readers of the News & Star to share their best places for Thai food.

Plenty of people got in touch to share their views.

Here - in no particular order - are our readers’ choice.

1: ROYAL OUTPOST, CARLISLE

Based above The Cumberland Inn on Botchergate in Carlisle, the restaurant first opened in May 2010 and serves a mix of Malaysian and Thai food.

Alison Fitzsimmons said: “Royal Outpost is a great place excellent food and excellent service.

“Would recommend to anyone.”

Sarah Reynolds posted: “Royal Outpost - beautiful fresh, tasty food, great service and cocktails.”

Ann Jones added: “I love the Royal Outpost in Botchergate, Carlisle.

“The food is amazing and service is excellent.”

2: DOI ITANON, AMBLESIDE

Located on Market Place in the centre of Ambleside, the Thai restaurant is open seven days a week.

Nicola Clark praised the eatery.

She said: “Definitely Doi Intanon in Ambleside.

“The restaurant has an authentic atmosphere and the food is outstanding and full of amazing flavours. Love, love, love the place.

“My favourite dish is the steamed fish with lemon and chillies, amazing.”

3: THAI FOOD CAFE, PENRITH

The family-run Thai spot, which serves up a range of traditional dishes from its Devonshire Street premises, was recommended by several readers.

Marion Roberts said: “The Thai Food Cafe in Penrith is amazing.

“I’m gluten free, but they can accommodate so many different options.”

Jules Goldsmith added: “The Thai Cafe in Penrith is definitely worth several visits too.

“Good lunch deals.”

4: PADTHAISTREET, CARLISLE

Based at the Upper Viaduct car park, near Nelson Bridge in Carlisle, the Thai food eatery was praised by many people.

Mark Glover said: “Padthaistreat - always excellent service and the food is delicious.”

Tom Burgess posted: “The best Thai food and really care about their customers.”

Emily Kate added: “Padthaistreat definitely, hands down, one million per cent the best Thai food.”

5: SIAM THAI RESTAURANT, CARLISLE

The Lonsdale Street restaurant in Carlisle city centre ranked highly with several readers.

Wendy Forster said: “Siam is at the top of my list.”

Jane Kirby added: “Siam in Carlisle is the best by far.”

6: RUEN THAI RESTAURANT, CARLISLE

The restaurant and takeaway, based on Crosby Street in Carlisle, serves up a number of dishes, including stir fry beef and chicken, along with a range of seafood meals.

Jill Armstrong said: “Ruen Thai in Carlisle without a doubt.”

7: STAR OF SIAM, KESWICK

Located on Main Street, in the centre of Keswick, the restaurant offers southeast Asian curries and stir fries.

It is open to customers seven days a week.

Natasha Kelly recommended the restaurant.
