An environmental festival will show how to live sustainably in Carlisle and Eden.

Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) is hosting more than 50 events across the county during the Cumbria Green Build & Sustainable Living Festival in September.

It will give inspiration on how to choose environmentally friendly options when it comes to health, food, the home, and choosing flowers.

“The local events will share skills in renovating older buildings, constructing ultra-low-energy homes, using lime for pointing, plastering and insulation, food foraging, growing flowers and vegetables, repairing goods and upcycling using pallets,”said Nigel Jenkins, festival organiser from CAfS.

Mike Berners-Lee, a renowned expert in carbon, will be giving a talk in Penrith about how to reduce our carbon footprint.

In July, Mike Berners-Lee sat on a panel in Penrith that gave young people the chance to put their questions about climate change to experts.

Throughout the month long festival, there will also be training opportunities for people interested in property development as well as talks on reducing carbon emissions.

Nigel said: “With a growing number of councils in Cumbria declaring climate emergencies, including here in Carlisle and Eden, the festival offers courses, films, an exhibition and conferences to share knowledge about the climate crisis and how we can respond to it, supporting the drive towards a zero carbon Cumbria.”
