The 169th Grasmere Sports takes place on Sunday August 25. The event is packed with a vast selection of activities and is expected to attract in the region of 5,000 visitors.

Heading the programme will be Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, hound trails, fell running for both adults and children, the ever-popular dog show (which includes a dog-handler award for the first time), children’s sprint races, and Tom Longton’s sheep dog display.

Dangerous Steve, who juggles fire and chainsaws, returns for a second year.

There will also be an array of trade stands, a beer tent and veteran car static display. Car parking will be free.

Show manager Deborah Black said: "The event, sponsored by Rathbone’s, has always been extremely popular. Its history and heritage place it as one of Cumbria’s most famous events and this year we have even more fantastic activities.

"The wrestling is popular each year, with competitors coming from across Europe, and this year we have included an under 10s wrestling competition for the first time."
