A woman has been fined for identifying an alleged sexual offence victim on social media.

Helen Claire Little, 41, of The Crescent, Egremont, pleaded guilty to identifying a sex offence complainant, when she appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates Court on Friday.

The court was told that on July 19, Little had published details on Facebook that would likely lead members of the public to identify an alleged victim of rape and indecent assault.

Sexual offence victims are automatically given lifelong anonymity under UK Law. This includes anyone who has made an allegation of rape which has not resulted in a conviction.

Little was fined £660. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £66 surcharge to fund victim services.
