A man has appeared in court accused of a racially aggravated assault on a taxi driver in Workington.
Gary Haycock, 29, faces one charge.
This alleges the racially aggravated common assault of Jahangir Iqbal on June 2 this year. The charge arises out of a night time incident which involved Haycock and taxi driver Mr Iqbal.
At Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, Haycock pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
He is now due to go on trial in front of a jury at the court on October 14. It is estimated that hearing will last around two days.
In the meantime Haycock, of Kirkfell Avenue, Cockermouth, was granted unconditional bail by Judge David Potter.
