A WOMAN has been injured following an incident on the A75 in Annan.

Police Scotland say they were called at 2.25pm about the safety of a woman.

A spokesman said: "We received numerous reports from passing motorists about a female standing on the outside of the safety barrier on the B722 Annan to Eaglesfield road, at the bridge which crosses the A75 road near to Northfield, Annan.

"Officers attended and both roads were closed down to traffic and diversions put in place while the incident was dealt with.

"About 2.50pm, the female fell from the over bridge onto the A75 roadway.

"She was treated by ambulance staff at the scene and then taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where her injuries are described as serious.

"The roads at the scene will remain closed at this time to allow a full scene examination to take place.

"Diversions are in place through Annan."
