A grandmother is pleading for people to support Brave the Shave as she cuts off her pride and joy.

Terry Wilson, 61, from Cumwhitton, has taken the plunge and decided to shave her hair off to raise much-needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Showing support, her daughter and grandson went along to the salon with her while she had the snip.

Mrs Wilson, who has a number of mobility issues, has had experience with Macmillan, they supported her stepfather while he suffered from cancer and the care he received was amazing, she said.

After losing an aunt and her grandmother she is dedicated to supporting the charity.

The idea behind Brave the Shave is for whatever reason you can help Macmillan support more people living with cancer.

Terry had the chop at The Strand on Scotch Street, Carlisle, she said: "I have used this hairdresser for years and I wouldn't go to another.

"I can't do much to support the charity, but I can do this.

"We all know someone who has or has had cancer.

"I want to raise awareness of the amazing work and support Macmillan offer."

After watching an advert of the T.V for the campaign she informed her family of her decision.

Terry added: "My family were shocked as they know my hair is my pride and joy and never leave the house without it being in place.

"I don't plan to hide away I want to show it off and try to keep raising money even after its all gone."

So far she has raised more than £300 and still has more to collect, she explained: "I'm not online, so I have had to go out and collect sponsorship money.

"People have been generous, I've had donations from £1 to £35, they all add up."

Brave the Shave has raised over £22.7 million for Macmillan Cancer Support since 2015.
