A long-established Carlisle firm has won a £20 million nuclear contract, creating five jobs.

Thomas Graham & Sons, based on the Kingmoor Park Industrial Estate, won the four-year contract this week to supply power tools and hardware to workshops on the Sellafield site in West Cumbria.

The contract won by the steel stockholding and industrial supplies firm is for a collaboration of Nuclear Decommissioning Authority businesses, including Sellafield Limited, the Low Level Waste Repository at Drigg and the National Nuclear Laboratory.

Products will be supplied via its Egremont branch and the new contract will enable the 127-year-old family company to create five new jobs.

The firm, which was established in 1892, also plans to invest in the Egremont depot and has pledged to work with local suppliers.

A second similar contract, also for four years, has also been awarded to the firm to supply nuclear sites across the UK managed by Magnox.

Russell Smith, Thomas Graham contracts director, said: “Winning this prestigious contract is testament to the hard work from our contracts team and the dedication from everyone across the business.

"We are delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Sellafield and the wider UK nuclear industry.”

Roger Smith, Thomas Graham managing director, said: “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Sellafield and this contract recognises our expertise as a supplier of premium industrial products."

Earlier this year, Thomas Graham was crowned Family Business of the Year for the North and Northern Ireland.
