Saturday's Maryport trawler race is shaping up to be the largest yet.

Organiser Gary Hampson said there are a record number of boats coming from both Peel and Ramsay in the Isle of Man "and local harbours have shown more interest than usual."

The number of trawlers adds, not just to the excitement, but also to the colour of the occasion. Both trawlers and crew are usually dressed to the nines, vying for the awards for best decorated boat and people.

This years event is an all day one with a car boot and market stalls from 10am.

There will also be plenty of entertainment for children and demonstrations on and off the water by local emergency services.

The boats will be judged at 12 noon and at 12.30, with music blaring and flags flying, they will process to the start line.

Entertainment for adults and children will be happening at the Butcher's Arms on Crosby Street with the prizegiving starting after the last trawler returns.
