A man is in intensive care this morning following a stabbing in Wigton.

Three people, two men and a woman, were injured in the incident.

The woman was injured on Church Street, while the two men were injured on King Street.

It happened just before 2pm yesterday, with police closing part of the town.

A 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

He remains in police custody this morning.

Of the three who suffered stab wounds, two were airlifted to hospital.

Police said this morning that one of the men, who was flown to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, is in intensive care.

The second man was taken to Preston Royal Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in a stable condition.

The injured woman was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A cordon was in place from King Street to Market Hill, although this was lifted by about 6.15pm.

Investigation work centred around a cafe called the Spotted Cow and the Spar shop.

Ambulance crews, including the Great North Air Ambulance, and the North West Air Ambulance, were all at the scene.

Police are this morning appealing for witnesses, or anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

Detective Inspector Martin Hodgson said: “Detectives are continuing their investigation today.

"We are particularly keen to encourage anyone who was in the area and who has a dash cam on their vehicle which could potentially have recorded any part of the incident to come forward.

“We are also urging anyone who witnessed the incident and has yet to come forward to do so immediately.”
