There’s no need to leave Cumbria to get your fix of beaches, and what better time to celebrate them than during National Marine Week.

Cumbria Wildlife Trust will host events all the way down the Cumbrian coast from today until August 11 to salute the wildlife and treasures on offer on our doorstep.

Dr Emily Baxter, senior marine conservation officer at Cumbria Wildlife Trust, said: “We believe that the seas around the UK deserve their own celebration.

“Every summer, people are drawn to the coast and spend time on the beach but the may be unaware of the wealth of wildlife around them.

“We want to give everyone the chance to explore the marine life off the Cumbria coast and make a difference for their local area and wildlife that lives there.”

There will be beach clean events in Maryport and Allonby, sea watch events in St Bees and Maryport, and the chance to create art on the beach at St. Bees.

A training event in Kendal will give an insight into spotting and identifying whales, dolphins, and sea-birds.

National Marine Week is an annual celebration of British beaches.
