WHETHER it’s an afternoon snack, or an after dinner treat, here in Cumbria there are loads of places to go for an ice cream.

This week we asked News & Star readers to share their recommendations on the best places to go in the north and west of Cumbria - and they didn’t disappoint.

We had more than 600 comments on our Facebook page following our post earlier this week.

Here - in no particular order, are our readers’ choice.

1: MAWSON’S ICE CREAM PARLOUR, SEASCALE

Alison ‘Tulloch’ posted: “Ashton Mawson’s in Seascale - gorgeous flavours, authentic gelato and great service.”

Sarah Terry said: “Another vote for Mawson’s in Seascale - so many flavours to choose from and they change regularly so you’re spoilt for choice, plus waffle of the month and crepes.

“Just about every time I’ve been somewhere else and tried their ice cream it’s not been a patch on this.”

2: CASA BELLA, KESWICK

Jenny Laws praised the ice cream shop.

She said: “Casa Bella’s Gelateria in Keswick is amazing, family run, friendly staff, and a massive range of homemade flavours that all taste delicious.”

Fellow reader Kayleigh Furness added: “Casa Bella Geleteria in Keswick and Ambleside!

“Gorgeous ice cream and made in the Braithwaite!

“Best ice cream.”

3: HARBOUR LIGHTS, HAVERIGG

Liz Williamson said: “Harbour Lights, Haverigg - fabulous flavours made on sight and local produce.

“Vegan ice cream also and a generous size.

“Friendly staff run this small business. Worth the trip out.

“We had family visit and loved them.”

Janet Stone added: “Riva Gelato at Harbour Lights, Haverigg.

“Made on site, fabulous flavours and yummy dairy free.”

4: WELLINGTON FARM, COCKERMOUTH

Sarah Pammenton posted: “Wellington Farm in Cockermouth is amazing!

“They make their own ice cream too.

“And the cafe is brill, never a bad meal there and my kids love the play area and animals.”

Mark Regan added: “Wellington Farm Cafe & Tearooms great ice cream, lovely cakes, fantastic food.

“ The Ice Cream is made on site and comes in a lovely variety of flavours, often new flavours pop up.”

5: DAVISON’S, SILLOTH

Chantelle Grayson Wood said: [Its] got to be Davison’s at Silloth.

“Homemade and reasonably priced for all the family with different ice cream of the week to choose as well.

“Absolutely delicious.”

Andrew Stanley said: “All the old favourites and unique flavours too.

“Some of the finest ice cream I’ve had in the country.”

6: MOODY COW, ALLONBY

Melanie Charlesworth said: “The Moody Cow in Allonby as the staff are extremely friendly and they sell delicious, creamy ice cream.

“It’s really handy for walkers as well as cyclists.”
