Explore the rich history of the border region with a ride through the Forgotten Lands.

The Reiver Ride, taking place on September 7, will take riders along one of two routes through ‘the Forgotten Lands’ of north east Cumbria.

Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and the Borders, announced the ride in March as a way to draw attention to this area of the county.

He said: “ I was keen to hold an event that celebrated the Reiving history of this very special area, which has a great, strong community of small family farms.”

Following the 18 and 21.5 mile rides, there will be a reiver ball held at the Roadhead Village Hall with live music and a bar.

Steve Pattinson, a farmer from Roadhead, said: “We’re very proud of our history in this area – there’s so much north of Hadrian’s Wall up here and most people don’t even know about it.”

The ride will start, and end, at the Bewcastle Cross which perfectly demonstrates the rich history of the area.

It was constructed in the eighth century and stands atop a Roman fort.
