Miley Newall has a published story and a writing competition-win under her belt – and she’s only eight-years-old.

The St Mary’s Primary School pupil won the CFM World Book Day competition by writing her own story, centred around radio DJ Robbie Dee hiding his secret identity, Enviroman, and “stopping evil villains from destroying our wonderful, beautiful planet.”

The story begins on a normal day for Robbie Dee, when he hears a crash in the Amazon Rainforest, and speeds away to fulfill his duty as Enviroman. Miley used plenty of adjectives and imagery in her work, and clearly impressed CFM with her imagination and creativity, with the team deciding that hers was their favourite story of them all.

After Miley’s work was named the winning entry, a professional illustrator was brought on board to create amazing illustrations to go alongside the budding author’s story in her very own published book.

The popular DJ went to St Mary’s School at Kells last week to present the excited writer with her published story, as well as a framed illustration from the book.

Each member of the class received a copy of the creative and inspirational tale, and Miley can now keep her first story safe forever.

Commenting on the youngster’s success, Year 6 teacher, Carley Miller, said: “Everybody is so proud of her for winning the competition – it’s such a huge achievement. Miley’s mum, Linzi Newall, works at the school, so she was even more thrilled than the rest of us. She was absolutely delighted!”

Although Miley has learnt about the environment in school, she chose the topic for the story herself, and encourages everyone to appreciate the world, and all the wildlife in it.
