A motorist has been charged with causing a man's death by dangerous driving on the A66 in Cumbria.
Rhys Gardiner, 24, appeared at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court charged with driving a Mercedes lorry dangerously and causing the death of Timothy Harkness at Crackenthorpe on April 3 last year.
The defendant, of Bentley, Doncaster, did not enter a plea to the charge when he appeared before District Judge Gerald Chalk.
He told the defendant that the case would have to be dealt with by Carlisle Crown Court. He said the case will have its first hearing at the higher court on August 12.
The district judge granted the defendant bail.
