A crew from Carlisle West Fire Station attended the 10sq m blaze just before 5.30pm today.
The team used a knapsack and a bucket to extinguish the grassland that was on fire.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service confirmed the fire was on grassland next to Boustead's Grassing, upstream from the recycling centre and towards the weir.
Firefighters were at the scene for about 20 minutes.
