Celebrate 50 years of man walking on the moon with afternoon tea in Neil Armstrong’s hometown.

To mark the 50th anniversary of humans walking on the moon, the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm will host ‘aftermoon tea’ today.

Mairi Telford Jammeh, organiser of the event, said “The event is open to everyone and tickets may be obtained from the Buccleuch Centre box office.

“The Tea Party will start promptly at 2pm - when the countdown to lift-off at 2.32pm will begin. It should be a truly memorable event and Langholm is definitely the place to celebrate it.”

Neil Armstrong, the first man to step foot on the moon, considered Langholm to be his ancestral hometown.

On Saturday, to mark the moment the Saturn V craft landed on the moon, Dr Ken Mactaggart, a space historian, will present the original recordings of the landing.

This will be followed up on Sunday with a screening of the film First Man (starring Ryan Gosling - as Armstrong - and Claire Foy) with an introduction by Neil Armstrong’s biographer.
