A MASTER manipulator of glass is showcasing her work at the Old Fire Station.

Roxanne Denny fuses together glass to produce elegant creations that play around with light and colour.

Her display at the Carlisle venue, which runs until July 27, features sprawling wall designs, intricate jewellery, and delicate bowls.

The abstract work is inspired by a wide range of muses but she often finds herself coming back to the landscape around us.

“I often create pieces that are inspired by ripples in water, patterns that I have seen in sand,” she explained. “I do always love blues and greens, so that always draws me back to looking at the landscape of the Lake District.”

She first fell in love with using glass to create art at university where she studied an applied arts course.

“Colour has always been a very big part of all of my artwork. I love the bright bold colours that you can get with glass.”

One of her favourite pieces in the exhibition, Ripple, reflects this love of colour - the three part piece is full of vibrant blues and greens.

“I really enjoyed getting back to some of my earlier influences and I think the overlapping circles theme is something that I plan to revisit in a few more pieces of wall-art.”

Over the years Roxanne has grown to create abstract pieces that focus less on geometric patterns but rather on the ways that colour can be used.

Some of her work from an exhibition inspired by outer space have been peppered into the exhibition at the Old Fire Station, including one based on the Butterfly Nebula.
