Work has started on repairing the river wall at Barepot in Workington.
Allerdale council’s contractor Ashcrofts were on site yesterday morning removing masonry and concrete from the river and the loose fill material that shields the existing wall from sight.
Part of the retaining wall originally collapsed in November.
It is thought that the dub wall is still intact and the wall that collapsed was part of a siding.
This initial work was due to be completed yesterday.
Once opened up, the council’s structural engineers Bingham Yates can draw up a detail for making good the points where the siding meets the dub wall.
The Environment Agency gave permission for the work to start.
