A very special puppet will take to Carlisle streets in September.

Carlisle’s community of international women are getting stuck into a series of crafty sessions that will eventually lead to a puppet entirely of their own design.

It is for the annual puppet pageant that will parade through Carlisle on September 7.

The theme of this year’s pageant is ‘A Kaleidoscope of Carlisle Life - celebrating the people and achievements that have made the city what it is today.’

Puppets may include astronomers, fishermen, coffee merchants, weavers and more.

Women who are creating this puppet will be both designing and developing it.

This new workshop is just one of a number of schemes run by the International Women’s Group to support local women in building friendships.

The craft sessions, organised by Carlisle International Women’s Group, will take place every Wednesday morning until August 27.

They are open to the public between 11am and 3pm the Business Interaction Centre on Paternoster Row.

Prism Arts is once again producing the huge creations and is working with other community organisations to get the event off the ground.
