An unlicensed drink-driver who failed to stop for police has found himself in court.

Kevin Michael McTaggart, 27, of South Street, Egremont, appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Workington.

The court heard that, on June 20, McTaggart drove a Vauxhall Astra on Irish Street, Whitehaven, when he had 66mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

He was driving other than in accordance with a licence, and without insurance.

Magistrates were told that McTaggart failed to stop the vehicle when required to do so by a police officer in uniform, and the following day resisted a police constable in the execution of his duty.

He pleaded guilty to all five offences.

Magistrates gave him an 18-month driving ban and ordered him to pay a £240 fine and £200 costs.

In a separate case, McTaggart admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a woman in Whitehaven on May 31.

He was given a six-week curfew covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and told to pay £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.
