Protests against a new west Cumbrian coal mine are set to continue.
On a day of peaceful protests in Carlisle, Extinction Rebellion has revealed it will also protest the coal mine that is planned off the coast of Whitehaven.
A statement issued by the Cumbrian branch of the group said: “The decision to open a coal mine in west Cumbria should be revisited.
“More safe jobs can be created by investing in existing sustainable and renewable energies.”
The coal mine has been an ongoing source of unease amongst local activist groups since it received the go-ahead back in March.
If the plans go ahead, it will be the first deep coal mine to be built in the UK in 30 years.
Protestors are expected to meet outside the Cumbria County Council offices in the city on July 4 at 12 noon.
