AN appeal has been launched after a takeaway was vandalised.

A community has come together to help a Fish and Chip shop open after it was covered in paint and had its window smashed.

Paint was thrown over the front of Gina’s Plaice on High Street, Wigton just before 11.30pm last night, and the front window was smashed.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Officers are investigating, a report of criminal damage at Gina’s Plaice.”

The owner of the takeaway posted on social media saying: “We’re open as normal. After an incident last night, our shop window was smashed and paint thrown all over. We have managed to get scrubbed down, boarded up and open on time.

“Massive thank you to friends, family, staff and local business owners for all the hard work helping us to clean up and board the window.

“We really do live in a caring community.”
