HUNDREDS of people are expected to turn out for one of Cumbria’s most popular carnivals.
Organisers of Wigton Carnival are putting finishing touches to tomorrow’s event - and are promising lots of family fun for the 20th year.
The main event is the carnival parade and will feature a number of colourful and creative floats which will make their way through the town centre.
Starting at 1pm from East End, Wigton, the procession will make its way up King Street to the monument, then through High Street before turning around and travelling to the Barton Laws playing fields.
As well as the procession there’s a host of entertainment to delight families including a police dog show, the funfair, BBC Radio Cumbria will be giving the public the chance to be a presenter and children’s sports.
Denis Graham, one of the organisers, said: “We’re expecting it to be bigger than ever this year. The carnival is 20-years-old this year.
“We’ve got a tremendous amount of floats and five bands as well as a stage at the moment and a stage at the playing fields.
“It’s estimated that 300 children will be taking part in the parade.”
Funding has fallen short for Wigton Carnival this year, so a fundraiser has been set up by one of the committee members and has gained a positive response.
“It’s been really good,” continued Mr Graham.
“Businesses have donated because we have nowhere to go for funding.
“But we know we will get the money together.”
