A FORMER student has returned to Carlisle to issue an appeal to find a long lost college friend.

Retired advertising executive Andy Hughes, 70, from Newton Maerns, Glasgow, is hoping to get back in touch with Peter Bowron, who is originally from Cockermouth.

The pair studied graphic design at Carlisle College of Art and Design on Brampton Road from 1969 to 1972.

Now, it’s home to the University of Cumbria’s Institute of the Arts.

Andy, who went on to study further at the Glasgow School of Art, said: “It has been great to come back and see where I used to study. The room I used to spend much of my time in is still here and almost identical to how it was 50 years ago.

“There was a great group of us, all friends; we had some of the best times here.

“I brought some photographs and my original prospectus along with me to donate to the university’s archives.

“Peter and I lost touch but it would be wonderful if someone could help me find him.”

Andy’s career included several senior roles at Rex Stewart & Associates and Barkers Scotland advertising agencies, regularly working for major clients and on national campaigns.

During his trip to Carlisle, Andy toured the galleries at Brampton Road exploring the Summer Degree Show, an exhibition of work by 150 of the university’s final-year students who will graduate soon.
