HOWGILL Family Centre is on the look out for new volunteers to join its team in the Howgill Shop in Irish Street, Whitehaven. Volunteers must be over 18 and will receive full training and expenses.
The team is also looking for donations of toys and games which can be taken to the shop.
Volunteer and participation co-ordinator Samantha Benson said: “We are lucky to have fantastic volunteers at Howgill Family Centre who donate their time, skills and knowledge – they make such a difference and we couldn’t be without them.”
Volunteers and trustees were recently treated to afternoon tea at Lingla Café, Frizington, to thank them for all their hard work.
Around 40 volunteers and trustees support children and families in Copeland in a variety of ways including carer and toddler groups, messy play, girls groups and construction club; specially trained breastfeeding support volunteers advising in centres, ante-natal classes and on the ward and a befriending service.
Volunteer Maria McNally said: “I love being a volunteer for Howgill. The staff are all great and it’s a great way to make a contribution to the community and meet new people.”
Stella Dobinson said: “I am volunteering to give something back to the local community. It is wonderful to be a part of it all and watch the children blossom.”
