A WHITEHAVEN man accused of carrying out a serious attack has appeared in court.

Thomas O’Fee, 23, of George Street, appeared at the magistrates' court in Workington this morning to answer a charge of wounding with intent.

It relates to an incident on Friday at around 3.30am on College Street in Whitehaven, when a 30-year-old man from West Yorkshire suffered serious head injuries. The court heard the man is in a stable condition, however he has to undergo surgery due to multiple fractures to his face.

O'Fee, who was wearing a grey tracksuit, had bruising to his face and his right hand was bandaged when he appeared in the dock, flanked by two security guards.

He spoke only to confirm his name, address, date of birth and nationality.

Rachel Ottley, defending, said O'Fee was likely to enter a guilty plea to the offence when he appears at the crown court in Carlisle on July 19. O'Fee was remanded in custody.
