THIS week, we have asked our readers to pass on their advice on where the best dog-friendly pub is in Carlisle, plus north and west Cumbria.

We received more than 400 comments on the News & Star Facebook page, with lots of recommendations for places across the area.

In no particular order, here are the best places in the county to go, as voted for by you, our readers.

1: HOWARD ARMS, BRAMPTON

The Front Street pub has received lots of praise.

Rebecca Henrys said: “The Howard Arms in Brampton is a great dog-friendly pub!

“Not only are they fine with other people bringing their dogs in, but they also have two of their own which are so friendly.”

David Coward said: “Great place for dogs as well as good food.”

Michelle Hearder added: “They always welcome dogs and it is a great to visit, they would also get a warm welcome from the two very friendly resident dogs who live there.”

2: THE FAIRYDUST EMPORIUM, SILLOTH

The pub, based on Eden Street in Silloth, was recommended by several readers.

Jana Falcon said: “Fairydust Emporium in Silloth - Vicky Hope and her staff are lovely.

“Food is fab and venue is magical and so many more things to do after in Silloth too.”

David Coward said: “Howard Arms Brampton, great place for dogs as well as good food.”

3: THE HERDWICK INN, PENRUDDOCK

Located to the west of Penrith, the pub is set just off the A66.

Sue Wallace said: “The Herdwick Inn, Penruddock, Penrith is very dog and owner friendly.

“Great food, beer and warm welcome for all.”

Karen Zagdan posted: “The Herdwick Inn at Penruddock.

“Dog friendly and human friendly.”

4: THE BLUE BELL, DALSTON

The pub, based in the centre of Dalston, won praise from several people.

Nicola Irving said: “The Blue Bell in Dalston is a lovely dog friendly pub they give dog treats and bowl of water upon arrival.”

Lisa Wilden posted: The Blue Bell are very dog friendly, treats on the bar for them, blankets and water bowls. Great food and drink for the humans too.”

5: BREWDOG, CARLISLE

The Botchergate bar was recommended to us by Gregg Bulman.

He said: “Free dog treats. Dog beer on sale and a dog wall of fame on the wall.”

6: THE SPINNERS ARMS, CUMMERSDALE

Situated on the edge of Carlisle, the Spinners Arms in Cummersdale are open seven days a week.

Laura Tweeddale said: “Lovely pub to go after dog walking by the river, dogs are as welcome as their owners.”

7: PUNCH BOWL INN, GREAT BROUGHTON

Based on Main Street in Cockermouth, the pub was praised by Helen Pagel.

She said: “Great friendly pub and lovely staff who give biscuits to well behaved dogs.”

8: GRAHAM ARMS HOTEL, LONGTOWN

Located on English Street, the hotel contains a pub.

Lisa Hewitt Thomson said: “They love dogs, just as long as they have well behaved owners.”
