An Egremont woman has been handed a conditional discharge for her first offence – at the age of 76.

Kathleen Logan, of Uldale View, appeared before magistrates in Workington today charged with criminal damage.

She entered a guilty plea and admitted damaging water barrels belonging to Nicola Napier in Egremont between January 1 and January 15.

Diane Jackson, prosecuting, said: "The victim in the case noticed that numerous water barrels which belonged to her and had been placed for horses had been damaged."

The court heard that the victim initially assumed the damage was accidental but after more incidents she decided to install CCTV.

Logan was caught on camera stabbing the barrels as she walked past them, magistrates were told.

When interviewed by police, she admitted there had been some issues between the parties in previous years.

Emily Smith, defending, said: "She is a lady of very good character as you can see as this is her first offence at the age of 76."

The court was told that Logan was stressed at the time due to her husband and two dogs being seriously ill.

Magistrates handed Logan a conditional discharge but she was ordered to pay £85 costs, a £20 victim surcharge and £9.99 compensation.
