West Cumbria’s teenage mental health campaigners have had the highest possible boost - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Royal couple met members of the We Will campaign during a visit to Cumbria yesterday.

Prince William was given a memory stick with educational films made by the young people and was asked to share.

On Tuesday night a film was shared on Instagram from Kensington Palace, the official home of the couple, and, by Wednesday morning, had been shared by nearly 173,000 people.

We Will is the group formed out of the Ewanrigg Local Trust, It is made up of young people from Maryport and Cockermouth who have been working tirelessly to campaign for better health services for their peers. They also made their own films to raise awareness about youth mental health.

The young people were among several groups and organisations invited by the Cumbria Community Foundation to meet the Royal couple,

Billy Robinson said their work resonated with the Duchess.

He said: “She was lovely. She said she was amazed by our work and the changes we have been making to the local community.

“She said it resonated strongly with her and her passion for mental health and told us to keep up the work we were doing.

“It was amazing that she took notice. When we started out we said wouldn’t it be wonderful to meet William and Kate and I don’t think we thought we would actually meet them. She said she would watch our film.”

Hanah Pantley, 18, also of the We Will group, said: “She was really engaged with what we were saying. We all have similar interests. It’s just amazing to know we have got something in common with the royals.”
