The first-ever plastic-free market in Keswick was such a success that another has already been booked.
The waste-free event last month encouraged shoppers to bring their own bags and containers to fill up with goods ranging from cakes and coffee to gifts, cleaning fluids, eggs, clothing and stationery.
Some 15 stalls signed up for the market at the Methodist Hall on Southey Street which was organised by Chinty Turnbull.
She said: “The market was a real success.
“The stall holders were really happy and lots of locals came to see and buy which is exactly what I wanted.
"I managed to persuade Keswick's Open All Hours convenience store to stock plastic free shampoo bars as a result of the market and they have sold out in the first week!”
Chinty, who set up the town’s WI group, is hoping to make the market a monthly event.
The next market will be at the Methodist Hall on Sunday, June 30.
