The future of Aecom in Whitehaven hangs in the balance as the multi-national firm undertakes a review.

The engineering design firm, which works across several industries including nuclear, has a base at Whitehaven's former town hall on Duke Street.

It is not known if any jobs are at risk, but a spokesman for the firm said: “As part of our real estate strategy, we are always looking to make our office footprint as efficient as possible, and we are currently reviewing the lease of the Whitehaven office.”

The town hall was formerly used as the county court, but was sold in 2005.

The company declined to reveal any further information.

Aecom, a former sponsor of Whitehaven Rugby League Club, moved into the town hall several years ago.

It works with clients in more than 150 countries.
