DRIVERS are being warned of disruption on many of the county’s in north and west Cumbria.

A number of roadworks will take place in and outside of Carlisle from today.

The works come as schools head back after the May half-term.

Finkle Street, in the city centre, will be shut to traffic from tonight to allow the works be be carried out.

The closure will be removed during the day.

Elsewhere, a closure is currently in operation at How on the C1035 near Hayton, Brampton, to allow emergency works to repair a hole in the road to take place. Motorists should use the C1024, C1039 and C1034 as a diversion route.

A spokesman from Cumbria County Council said that stretch of road is expected to reopen this week.

Work is also set to start to repair a sink hole that appeared on Hartington Place last week.

Investigation works will begin today, following a slight delay due to the depth of the hole.

The council spokesman added: “Specialist trench supports are required.

“Again, we expect it to be next week before the road is reopened fully.”

Operatives from Cumbria Highways will also carry out patching works in Harraby this week.

Meanwhile, work will start today on drainage repair works near Rose Cottage at Hawksdale, Dalston, for five days.

The road will be closed to traffic between 8am and 4pm each day.

Gas works will also start today to the west of Carlisle.

A section of Burgh Road will be temporarily closed between the A689 Carlisle Bypass and Grinsdale Bridge Junction for gas works.

The work is expected to be carried out for about two weeks.

In Dearham, a section of C2001, Craika Road, will be temporarily closed from today for utility works by BT. The work is set to last for about three days.

While the works are being carried out in various locations across the county, drivers are being urged to plan ahead, leave extra time for their journeys, and expect further congestion during peak times.
