A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been injured after an assault in a Carlisle park.

Details of the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, April 18, have just been released by Cumbria Police.

The teen was walking through Hammonds Pond Park at about 8.30pm that night when the incident occurred.

Police say he was assaulted by a group of youths shortly after passing the cafe area.

He left in the direction for Scalegate Road.

The boy received minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment.

The members of the group are described as wearing dark clothing and black Nike Air max plus 'TN' shoes.

One member of the group was reported as wearing a balaclava, and another had his coat zipped up obscuring the lower half of his face.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Reports of assaults involving large groups are not common in Cumbria and no such incident has occurred since.

"This behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in Cumbria.

"Therefore I would like to appeal to anyone with information to get in touch with police now.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cumbria Police via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting log 221 of April 18.
