Brampton is celebrating 20 years of being twinned with French towns.

Seventeen members of Brampton & District Town Twinning Association visited Marmagne and Berry Bouy in France last week to mark two decades of the towns being twinned.

The occasion was marked by a road between the two French towns being named the ‘Promenade de Brampton’.

Stephen Warnes, coordinator of Brampton & District Town Twinning Association, said: “Away from the madness of Brexit and the fifty year out-of-date stereotypes is a real world where our French friends really like the British and hold Brampton in very high regard.

“With just a few words of French and a lot of good humour we have always been made very welcome.”

Members of the association and their French counterparts looked back on 20 years of memories over wine and savoury patisseries.

Mr Warnes added: “Next year will mark Brampton’s 20th anniversary of our first visit to France and we also will be looking for a suitable way of commemorating that event.”
